Do you think that the death penalty deters people from committing murder?

It only deters the person who has actually been put to death as they are no longer alive to kill any more people.

I believe that most single murders are an act of 'passion', not passion in the sexual sense, but passion as in a spur of the moment leading to murder of someone that they were closely acquainted with, and had reasons for killing who they killed.
Those types of people don't kill random people.

killing is killing - because it is the state doesn't change the act and justify it
