I'm a bibliophile and if money were no object I'd collect myself the biggest wonderfullest most awesomest personal library. :D

I'd also spoil my furbabies rotten.
Oh wait, they're already spoiled rotten.
I'd spoil them even more!

Something else -- I fantasize about all the amazing clothes and books I could buy.

I enter free sweepstakes sometimes, but I don't buy lottery tickets mainly because I don't know how. If you can't just pick something off a shelf and set it on the counter, I'm too afraid to ask about it.

I wouldn't retire completely from work but I would burn some bridges while quitting... like shaking my butt in my boss's face type of bridge-burning. :D

For someone who doesn't play often (maybe once or twice a year?) I do think about it a bit!

The lotto in NZ isn't that much, the maximum you can get is about 7 million? But first prize is generally about 1-2 million.

Other things I would do apart from what I selected: Endless university degrees, build a massive green house/aviary, create huge art installations.

One of my co-workers buys lottery tickets nearly every day. Every day, on our break, we walk to the grocery store, and every day he so eagerly pours part of his earnings into his habit. It's just astounding for me to think about how much money he's needlessly squandered over the years.

In an effort to get him to look at what he was doing, for many months i kept track of his spending, calculating the mean and standard deviation of his winnings. On average, for every dollar he spent, he was losing about 88 cents. He spent an average of about $5 per day. This meant that over the course of a year, he was throwing away more than $1,500.

He saw my results, quite clearly. He acknowledged that it was a bad idea. But he still buys tickets, and with eager anticipation. And although i've seen him occasionally win $50 or even $75, overall he's still suffering a tremendous loss.

I obviously don't play the lottery, and i'd like to think it's because i have the sense to pay attention to the odds. In a year, one is hundreds of times more likely to be struck by lightning than to win the jackpot.

I'd hire a staff to take care of my father who has Alzheimer's so he could leave the nursing facility where he is. I'd also do something special for all the staff that work there, and the residents.
