Legumes

Thanksgiving
I've been listening to an audio book in which the reader pronounces the word "legumes" different that I do. I looked up the pronunciation in an online dictionary and apparently either is acceptable. How do you pronounce it?

"laygums" all one word with maybe a slight emphasis on lay

lay-GYOOMZ is probably the closest approximant.

leh-GYOOMS

it's more leh-gooms. if i'm speaking french i'll say it the french way, and my first instinct is to pronounce it that way even in english. i stop myself though, so i don't sound pretentious. :p

it's weird because in english, legumes refers to beans, but in french it means vegetables.
