For "people in my block that I know" I listed the number of families I'm familiar or friendly with - so there are technically more PEOPLE, but I tend to include them all as one family unit.

When you are the only family living full time at the end of the road on the tip of an island that at the most only has 300 full time residents - well..... It's a beautiful day in our neighborhood.
I do know all the "near by" neighbors when There are a few "summer people" up the road that I don't know.

Every time you describe your island, it always sounds like you live in Paradise.

There is a huge transient population in our neighborhood since it's so close to ASU. I wouldn't say it's a bad neighborhood (it's old and established) but we get a lot of violent crime and runaways that leak in from the major streets and shopping centers surrounding us. Property values are going way up, though. We actually found out today that our house is finally back up in value to almost what we paid when we bought it after a $100,000 dip.

Edit: And I don't want to move because of the neighborhood but because I don't enjoy living in Arizona :)

My neighbourhood is a mixture of relatively safe residential and really unsafe, full of drug dealers and crack whores. Rather polarized.

I used to see cops a lot more often but that was when we had a police station on the corner of my street. As for my desire to move it's not due to the neighbourhood so much as it is the politics of Quebec... not that I can afford it.

Petty larceny is higher than average; everything else is much lower than average.

I said that we see police on our street "almost never" based on the spirit of the question. If you want a strict, literal answer, it would be "constantly" - we live across the street from a state police post ;)

I just moved to a brand new apartment building. We're the only thing on the west side of the freeway (there's not much space between the freeway and the lake). I get the impression the city residents aren't too happy about having an influx of people because of our apartments, but we're all pretty excited about it. I haven't really had a chance to get to know my neighbors, the apartments haven't been open a month yet. But so far so good!

I would like to remain in my neighborhood, but I'm in college and will most likely move when graduate in a year.
And surprisingly, for a college neighborhood we don't have crime and only really see the cops if the occasional a party gets out of hand. It's not near the big party zone and downtown, and usually the older residents of the neighborhood will try going to the party to get them to be more respectful. :)

I wouldnt say that the city I live has any places that aren't safe at all. There are a few spots with increased criminality(central train station and some areas with majority low income/unemployment issues) but even that is isnt high. and people tend to revert more to actually beating the shit out of someone or stabbing rather than using hand guns(as they aren't widely available here)
I don't know about property prices, but rental prices are always on the up....
If I could choose, I am not sure. i think I would just move down a few km down the road, but the road I am living on is alright, it goes into the neighbouring district which has a bit of a better name.
