Things I Think In The Course Of The Day
21st-Jan-2012 05:56 pm
Barney
Inspired by, respectively, a feature on the LJ homepage, a discussion I had once in a college literature course, and a shopping trip. Highly intellectual. Or not. Oh, and just to clarify the last option on #5, please choose it only if you know you have those stores in your country, but still don't shop at them -- otherwise, follow the wording in the question. I'm going for data on both popularity and recognition all at once. VERY scientific. :)

By this point I'm like "goddammit no stop that" whenever LJ announces changes because I can't think of anything major they've done in the past several years that's actually been a real improvement. :/

Ahaha I work at Kmart so... :P

I am still not at all sure what these "big changes" are even supposed to be, but I do think it's a little sad that LJ can't just be happy with its core base, and is instead trying to reach out and appeal to Facebook/Twitter users.

Once you're rooted somewhere, it's not that easy to just decide to switch to some flashy new site (or "new" site) because it has some cool features.

LJ, Twitter and Facebook are all valuable sites for different reasons. When you try to turn one of them into something it's not, you risk losing its value.

I've been with LJ since 2001 so I'm not going anywhere, but I do side-eye a lot of the changes because it's FINE the way it is.

I'm dating a cheesecake baker, so...yes, I love cheesecake.

I actually usually don't notice new changes? Maybe I'm unobservant.

My answer to the first question was "Do not want." This is my reaction now, after years of LJ implementing changes in terrible, horrible ways and/or implementing changes that break funtionality that I like or somehow mess with privacy. It's almost never good, so I've come to expect that the changes will be very, very bad.

At first I said Target, but then I changed it to Walmart. We have Target and Kmart here in Australia, but it turns out they're not affiliated with their US counterparts, so I assume they don't count as answers - regardless of whether I shop there or not. We don't have Walmart, but that's the one you hear about all the time, so I picked that for recognition. Oddly enough, I didn't even know there was a US Kmart, whereas Walmart shouts "America" as loudly as anything else I can think of.

All we have around here is Walmart.
