I've never bought a lottery ticket, but I think I would have if it was legal here. As a kid we took a lot of Saturday drives to Idaho so my parents could buy "a gallon of milk". ;)

I'd use my $1000000 to complete my education, put a down payment on a house, and either renovate my parent's house or buy a new one for them. So yeah, it'd be gone pretty quick.

The only lottery tickets I ever buy (once in a blue moon, more like less than $10 in a given year than any average amount per month) are those scratch-off ones. At least there's more chance of winning your dollar back, and many of them are way more entertaining than the Power Ball tickets, etc., because they have little games on them, which still makes it worth the dollar I spent; not much different than spending a dollar on an arcade video game or something like that.

Oh, and as to how I'd spend the million dollars... since I've already paid off my student loans as of last year, I would just sock most of it away into a retirement fund and emergency savings... after, of course, buying some new clothes since all of the ones I have are several years old and starting to fall apart and/or are too small now. =(

I don't regularly buy lottery tickets--probably less than once a year, usually on a whim. Usually, my husband and I buy them together if we're in a local convenience store, just as something rather fun to do. As mentioned, it's a very rare occasion. I think the last time I bought a ticket was more than 2 years ago.

In the past, I have won maybe $1.00 or $5.00 on scratch tickets. I don't usually buy those either, but many years ago, I used to work in a grocery store and always saw people buying them, so I bought a couple to see what the fuss was about. The time I won $5.00, we were on a long family car trip late at night, and my daughter was not feeling well, so I bought a scratch ticket so that I could let her scratch it off, just to distract her even just for a few minutes. I didn't know we had to go back to the same convenience store to redeem it, so we weren't able to redeem it for more than a year, since the store wasn't near my house.

I had a friend who won $26,000,000 in the lottery. The payments were split up over 25 years.

I only do scratch offs when the feeling and opportunity arises. The most I've won is another ticket.
