Compared to a year ago, I certainly receive more spam comments.

Same, and more spambots trying to friend me.

My impression is that English-language LJ is declining whilst Russian-language LJ is rising.

This. Russian use of LJ is thriving -- it's a large part of the reason behind the DDoS attacks it's been getting hit with. LJ is pretty much the go-to source for non-government-approved current events information, from what I understand.

I've found that the only part of LJ I'm all that active in right now is fandom. I'm part of a couple of fanfic comms that get upwards of 5000 comments per entry. The rest of LJ seems pretty ghost townish to me now though. I've been active here for 8 years now.

This. Even the LJ RP community, which I am barely active in anymore, seems to have been steadily declining over the past couple of years. Seems like just about everyone there has since then moved on to Plurk, and everyone else has moved on to Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr. ETA: And Dreamwidth. How could I have forgotten that one? *Facepalm*

It used to be that one day's worth of entries on my Friends page would span two whole pages... now I can view at least two days' worth of entries (most of them community or RSS feed posts) without having to go to page 2 on my Friends page. And even I have had long periods of time when I didn't bother to check LJ, let alone post to my journal (and this was before the big snafu from a few weeks ago).

I agree with other comments that Russian-language LJ is thriving while English-language LJ is declining, but it's hardly dying. The English side of LJ is certainly still active -- especially if you're into fandom comms and anonmemes and kinkmemes. That's where I spend most of my time nowadays.

...So much so that I just went to post anonymously, haha.

Agree 100%. Granted, I know I don't post in my own journal nearly as much as I have in the past (when I was in high school, I posted daily...now you're lucky if you get an entry a week) but I still check LJ on a daily basis and my friendslist moves as much as it's ever have.

I know it's already after the fact, since we can't edit polls, but I think it would have also been interesting to know how many years each of the respondents have been using LJ, to see if that influences perceptions as to whether LJ is dying or not. And also, whether we primarily use the Russian part of it or not, as well as what we use it for in general.

Yeah, I've had this LJ since 2002. Around 03/04, it was THE social communication among my IRL friends. Now, it someone posts an actual entry over here, it's because it's something they don't want everyone they know to see (facebook)

I agree with this (and I've had LJ since 2003).

compared to a year ago- probably the same. I think LJ is onm a aconstant level. There are friends which write less- but for a change there are some that come on new.

LJ is dead and everybody knows it. I only come here to run communities anymore. All my friends have moved on.

The only reason I picked "about the same" for any is because I went searching for more friends to add after my old friends left. Sadly, my old friends were actual irl friends soooo...LJ is a bit of a different experience for me now. I've participated in the Lolita community most of my time here, and it seems that all of the Lolitas are migrating over to Facebook these days.
