I currently have two active requests at the library. Out of curiosity, which one do you think will be filled first? Pertinent information, and keeping in mind there are multiple branches the copies can move between, adding possible transit time:

The book (The Hunger Games): position 71, 19 copies, 3 week checkout limit
The DVD (Numb3rs, season 6): position 6, 1 copy, 1 week checkout limit

[1-week update: Book = 55, DVD = 5]
[3-week update: Book = 37, DVD = 3]

First to arrive:

Book
9(18.4%)
DVD
40(81.6%)

The Hunger Games was so good! As soon as you get it, you should but the 2nd one on your list, because you're going to want to read it. :)

Probably true...the other two are available as rental books, though, which are nearly always checked in, so I figure those I'll just pay the 50 cents to have 'em for a couple of days.

The DVD by a long shot -- assuming everyone's a good patron and brings their stuff back on time.

The DVD, I think - the fines are more severe for bringing DVDs back late, so ~five weeks for that item should go by with relative accuracy, whereas people do routinely risk $1.40 for an extra week of a book. I feel like I should be more certain than I am about this, though, seeing as I work at a library! Transit time in my county only adds about a day, excepting weekends, BTW.

Sounds like the Free Library. Based on my experience there, I'd say the DVD.

ETA: Although another pertinent question is whether people can renew either of these, and if so, whether they can do it when someone has a hold on it.

Nope, no renews allowed when there are requests. I thought that was universal for libraries.

And, er...are there non-free libraries? I'm not sure what you're referring to.

Oh, sorry, I didn't even think about how that would be obscure to most people. The Free Library is Philadelphia's library system.

now i'm curious, are you going to let us know?

Absolutely -- stay tuned.

I chose the DVD partly also because that's what I'd rather have... and they haven't released season 6 here yet *LOL*
