Are flip flops a no no at a funeral in Texas? - Dress or skirt but with flip flops.

I would never wear flip flops to a funeral no matter how hot it is
Because it is so hot, I think it is fine.
It's fine for a child but not an adult.
I think it's fine for everyone ... period.

It depends on what you mean by "flip flops". If you're talking about something like the beach shoes pictured in my userpic, then no, absolutely not formal enough. About the only way I'd think it's all right is if it's some sort of dress sandal.

I really don't like how flip flops feel, so I wouldn't wear them anywhere but the beach.

However, I do remember going to a Saturday night opera in Tampa (just the one time I've ever been to an opera) and seeing most people dressed up, but one guy wearing a baseball cap and jeans.

Flip-flops are not appropriate in any situation, including at the beach. (I hate the way they flip sand up my legs when I walk!) They're even worse than Crocs, which I regard as a crime against humanity.

I am in complete agreement with you.

It IS possible to find dressy sandals, though. But flippity-floppies, or as they said in the old days, thongs, are not properly somber enough.

There are plenty of strappy sandal options that aren't flip flops that will still be cool enough.

Depends on the kind. If they're the $2 type you can pick up at Old Navy? Probably not. If they're "flip flop style" but a bit classier? Maybe.

Consider the other attendees too - older people might be more offended, but you don't want to get shown up in dressiness by a bunch of six year olds in flats...

As long as they're black, I say rock it.

Too many comments to respond to with this, so I'll just respond to the post itself.

I'm kind of bothered by what you all seem to think a funeral should be or is. Why does it matter whether people are in formal attire? People don't go to funerals to look prim and proper or pretty, they go to help themselves and their families and friends cope with death.

I totally agree

I couldn't vote because I don't know, honestly. ^^;; I am clueless about fashion norms and etiquette.

I voted that I would never wear them, but to me it depends on whose funeral it is. I have friends for whom this would be totally appropriate and in keeping with their memory. For others it would be taken as a total sign of disrespect.

Wear what you want. As long as you're there for the right reasons - to pay your respects - it shouldn't matter what you're wearing.

No I wouldn't. But on the other hand I NEVER wear flip flops.I can't stand the feeling of have something between my toes like that.
