TO be clear, this poll refers to Herpes Virus Type 1 otherwise known as oral herpes or herpes of the mouth and NOT genital herpes (type 2)

Have you ever had a cold sore or fever blister?

Are you aware that all cold sores/fever blisters are caused by the Herpes Virus?

Did you know that an estimated 80 percent of general population has the herpes virus but only 20 percent ever show symptoms?

Were you aware that most people have been exposed to the Herpes Virus (Type 1) before the age of 10?

Have you ever looked upon someone unfavorable because of a cold sore/herpes outbreak?

Both of my parents get cold sores, but I don't and neither does my sister.

Has it been that way since you were little?

Yes, always.

The last question I answered yes to because I have before and it was worded with "ever." Queue middle school health class and learning that cold sores = herpes. I feel like an ass for honestly clicking yes, so I feel the need to defend myself. D:

Sorry, to anyone with cold sores, for my poor behavior as an assholeish preteen.

that's the reason why i clicked yes too! at least we know otherwise now!

Dude peeps, I just said in the poll that cold sores do equal herpes. It's a fact. But it's also a fact that almost everyone has herpes.

oh i know! i think what that person meant, and me too, that since we didn't know that pretty much everyone gets herpes, that when someone got a cold sore..we thought herpes..which then made us think the person was a skank lol. that was many years ago..i've obviously since learned that it's normal for it to happen and don't think that anymore.

I used to think the same thing actually.

Interesting little factoid: When I contracted chicken pox (varicella zoster, a herpes virus albeit a different type) as an adult some ten years ago, my doctor prescribed acyclovir, which is used to treat the Herpes Simplex 2 virus, to cut down on the duration of the infection. It actually worked.

I used to get cold sores all the time when I was little but I've not had one since that time; I'd say it's been over twenty years since I last had one.

Same here. Especially after I saw my dad. I'd see him about one weekend a month, and if he ever had an outbreak while I was with him for the weekend I'd inevitably have one myself not long afterwards. Probably from sharing drinks, carmex, and getting smooches since I was a codependent little kid. =D

Oops, and ETA: I rarely ever get them anymore, but when I do it's basically always because I'm really, really ill.
