Just five random questions stemming from stuff going on in my life.

Poll #1555409 Random stuff

I have a sore back right now. I don't know how I got it, I was just tying my shoe when this pain shot down my leg. Have you ever had back pain?

I have it constantly
I have if frequently
I have it sometimes
I've only had a sore back once
No, I've never had any back pain (touch wood)
Something else (what?)

I have a chance to go to Berlin in 2011. I've never been there. But to go, I'd have to participate in a work thing, and I think it's a bunch of bullshit and a waste of taxpayer's money (long story). I think it would bother my conscience to go on these terms. If you were me, would you go?

Hell yes, quit being such a goody-goody.
Only if I could go with a clear conscience, otherwise I wouldn't go
No, I wouldn't want to go to Berlin under any circumstances.
Something else (what?)

A year ago I lent a friend a lot of money. He hasn't paid any of it back and hasn't mentioned paying it back at all. It's his birthday tomorrow, Should I get him a birthday present?

Yes. Don't confuse friendship and money.
Only if he discusses how he plans to repay the loan.
No. He's screwing you over. You look like a bigger chump by getting him a birthday present.
Something else (what?)

Which sports events are you following these days?

The NHL playoffs
The NBA playoffs
The NFL draft
Major league baseball
Some other sport (which one?)
Something else (what?)

I feel like seeing a movie this weekend, and these interest me. If you were me, which would be your first choice?

Kick Ass
The Losers
How to Train Your Dragon
Avatar (dvd rental)
None of the above, but something else (what?)
None of the above period.

I'd probably still get him a small gift, but later (not on his birthday but sometime soon) talk to him about the loan as well.

This is what I was going to say for the gift part that I chose "something else" for.

As for Berlin, I didn't want to choose "yes quit being a goody-goody" because I think its good that you're thinking like this and you still have a conscience! But I would think of it this way if I really wanted to go - UNLESS you're the boss or in the admin part of your job where if you don't go nobody will or this project will be closed or whatever - then go! Because if you ARE boss/admin, it would make sense not to go because its against your beliefs. But if theyre gonna send someone else to do this anyway and its gonna happen regardless, why not have some fun travel on their behalf while youre at it?

Other sports I follow are equestrian, Aussie Rules Football, and cricket.

I saw Kick-Ass last weekend and thought it was awesome. Lots of fun, lots of laughs; very clever.

people older than kids don't really require birthday presents.

I personally don't like Berlin a lot. But if it is you Only way to visit Germany(again? can't rememebr whether you were actually an expat German) I'd go but otherwise if this work thing sucks I'd also go just because.

Give your frind a card to his birthday and saying you get one for him next year until the money was paid off(so virtually getting money each birthday xD) although if he is a good friend I wouldnt do it this way, but get him something small then.(like a book)

Watch 'how to train your dragon, I have heard it is cute :). Don't think Avatar is any good without the §d stuff .

I am following Cricket, Rugby, Snooker, and Moto GP and I don't follow it really but I watch into a game every now and then at German and European Football.

I've been in this situation with a friend I lent money to and hated it. When her birthday rolled round I gave her a small present but then left off contact for a long long time.

Have you asked the friend about the money? After a year I'd be pissed and wouldn't buy them a gift.

I would totally go to Berlin.

It's one thing if you lent him money once. If he's done this several times, then, no, I wouldn't get him a present.

Berlin is a great place a beautiful city, but traveling for fun is way better than traveling for work. I'd save up money and go on my own dollar.

I'm not really interested in Avatar or Kick Ass, so it was a coin-toss for the Losers and How to Train Your Dragon. I've seen How to Train Your Dragon (it's a surprisingly excellent film!) so I went with the Losers.

Money: Don't lend friends money. EVER. If you need to, make the loan a birthday gift and live and learn.

Sports: I also follow AHL hockey
24th-Apr-2010 03:35 pm (UTC)
Give the friend a card.

Re question no. 2: It would strongly depend on the work.
24th-Apr-2010 06:16 pm (UTC)
Berlin: it would be a fun experience, but you should only go if you have a clear conscience otherwise it wouldn't be worth it since you would feel bad about the whole trip, and probably other people would get pissed off because you are being a downer about the trip.

Movies: I heard Date Night is also supposed to be really funny.

12 Monkeys

If the loan really bothers you, forgive the friend some of the debt as a gift.
