Without more information, it's hard to say what could have caused her death. But in the end, it really doesn't matter; regardless of the cause, it's still sad and tragic. =(

By the way, I loved "Girl Interrupted," but I enjoyed her even more as a voice actor as Luanne Platter in the "King of the Hill" series.

I wanted to work that into the poll, but she did a lot of other tv work as well, including some voice work on Futurama. It would have made for another long question with a lot of obscure references. But her work as Luanne was also a favourite of mine.

Terra! <3

@Poll - She was in Sin City? I don't remember her character. It's been awhile though since I've seen it.

I assumed she died of drug related reasons, but I assume the worst out of most celebrities since they tend to be retarded when it comes to doing drugs.

Due to her age and the fact that she isn't a professional athlete, I assumed it was either an underlying heart problem or drugs. Whether it was drug abuse (prescription or illegal) or some sort of reaction, who knows.

For question #1, "assume" is probably too strong a word. My first thought about the cause was, "I hope it wasn't drug-related," but until there are definite reports, I won't believe that one way or the other. As someone else said, It doesn't really matter, because it's still very sad, especially because she's so young.

I feel so sad for her family. :-(

When I first saw that she'd died, I didn't think she'd OD'd. So many people automatically assume overdose when a celebrity dies.

I can't believe she's gone. I'd always enjoyed her acting, though I didn't obsessively watch movie after movie just because she was in it, but I never thought she'd die. It's like I sorta took her for granted. I'm still in shock.

When I first heard of her death, I went "who's Brittany Murphy?"
21st-Dec-2009 01:39 pm (UTC)
Yeah, me too. Haven't seen any of those movies, either.
21st-Dec-2009 07:26 pm (UTC)

I was the same way. lol I had no clue of who she was until I looked up what movies she has been in and what she looked like. And most of the movies she has been in I have never seen.

The article I read had a recent photo of her and she looked soooo deathly thin, I was thinking maybe an eating disorder or something else that eventually lead to heart attack. We may never know, though, since I read that her husband does not want an autopsy. I kinda don't blame him.

That's what I thought, too.
21st-Dec-2009 02:16 pm (UTC)
That was my suspicion, too. I thought "I wonder what happened?" and at the same moment looked over at her photo next to the article online, and thought "heart attack precipitated by anorexia?"
21st-Dec-2009 02:34 pm (UTC)
That was my first thought too- complications from anorexia.
21st-Dec-2009 02:52 pm (UTC)
Same here. A friend of mine is a recovering bulimic, and that's what she thought as well.

I really disliked "Girl Interrupted" but I thought Brittany Murphy's performance was by far the best thing in it. I think it's the only movie I've seen her in.

My SIL told me she died and the first words out of my mouth, "Drugs?" I just assumed that's what it was.

She's had heart trouble since childhood. I'm so sick of people assuming things, without knowing anything, when someone dies. How rumours start... It'd be nice if people would do some research before throwing around accusations. I'm not trying to pick a fight, I'm just upset with people buzzing around spreading rumours about people who have died. Of course, it happens with most celebrities, so I suppose I should chill. She may or may not have been anorexic, may or may not have had a drug problem, may or may not have been dealing with any of the things the rumour mill is churning out, but that's really no one's business now is it?
21st-Dec-2009 06:26 pm (UTC)
That was part of the reason for the first question. It just seems like a natural reaction by many people at first to make an assumption about drugs or anorexia. In saying that I'm not making any value judgement against anyone who did so, I am just curious how many people had that thought at first. I have to confess my guilt because that was the first thing that entered into my head. I'm not the only one. When singer Josh Groban was asked for a quote about her death he said "Hollywood loses another bright soul….how many more? A decade of decadence and devastation. Time to wake up."

I'm not upset with thought. It just bothers me when things like that get construed as the truth without any real reason. :/ I wasn't against the idea of the poll, just against some of the comments that sounded like know-it-alls passing judgment, and there were so many that it would've looked insane to respond to all of them.
21st-Dec-2009 07:10 pm (UTC)
I didn't know all that much about her, and certainly not about her heart trouble, so when I heard that someone age 32 died, I assumed it must have had something to do with "outside influence". You don't usually think of young people dying of heart disease.

I had a hard time choosing between Girl, Interrupted and Sin City but ultimately went with the latter.

She was one of my favorites. :(

I first learned of her from this song. I don't know if she did any more music, though.

22nd-Dec-2009 09:22 am (UTC)
I assumed it was eating disorder related.
22nd-Dec-2009 01:04 pm (UTC)
I never seemed to have watched films with her starring so it didnt phase me really.
22nd-Dec-2009 09:21 pm (UTC)
I'd like to say also that I enjoyed her films Sidewalks of New York and Across the Hall.
