The thing to keep in mind is that this film creates a whole new time line from TOS, without throwing out the events in TOS. All of that still happened, but it's like going to the county fair on two different days. Going the second day doesn't erase what you did the day before; you just do it differently.

So, no. It wouldn't work as a show, because the show already happened.
That said, whenever an actor does a film like this, they sign on for three, regardless as to whether or not all three of the films will actually be made.

Actually just for the reasons behind your clever block, I thought it would make a great TV series because you could have entirely new stories because of the differences which follow. (That will sound cryptic to those who haven't seen the movie yet. Just ignore this discussion and go see the flick.)

TOS <3

what could be better than kirk's shoulderthrows and macking with every hawt alien he sees?

I always liked Spock the best -- all the way back to the original series. But I love Kirk and Bones as characters too almost as much and I love Karl Urban the most of all these actors, but I had to pick Spock to go with what the question strictly asked.

I didn't know how to answer the question about TV vs Movies. I want to see this cast over and over again, so a TV series starring them would be fine with me, but I don't know if its really such a good idea.

I just saw the movie tonight and loved it. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

Our family's always been fans of TNG and later, never really TOS, but my mom and sister went to see the movie anyway the other day (without me, the jerks) and were raving about it, so I can't wait.

I think if they went and tried to do a TV show with these characters, though, it might cause a bit of an outcry among TOS purists. In any case, though, it's nice to finally see some new, good Star Trek out there.

There's going to be a Star Trek MMO sometime.

I liked it as a first installment. As just another Star Trek movie, meh. I loved loved loved the new take on all the characters, though. They got a great cast for it.

Thought I have seen all the Star Trek movies(except current one), most of the original show, and all of Next Generation series....I still say:

Star Wars > Star Trek =P

I'm a huge Trekkie, and I loved it.

About the last question though - I don't think that the franchise needed "saving". The five previous incarnations of Star Trek each ran their course. Like all series, they come to an end. That doesn't mean that they're dead or that they need to be saved. I would have been fine if everything ended after Enterprise and Nemesis. (Actually, I would have been MORE fine if everything had ended BEFORE Enterprise...but that's another story) Things begin, things end, life goes on.

That being said, I'm so freaking excited to see where this incarnation of Star Trek goes.

Yeah, I don't think it "saved" the franchise. It just gave it a boost and some new fans. Trek didn't need saving.

The only series I dislike is Deep Space Nine. You forgot the Animated Series, though alot of people just tend to include that in with the original series.

I was raised watching TNG, and I love that show. Occasionally, we'd catch an original episode, but I haven't really seen the newer reincarnations at all. Now, we've rented the entire original first series, and I dig those as well (although TNG will always have a special place). I honestly believe a whole lot of things wouldn't be here today if it weren't for Star Trek.

I saw the newest flick on Mother's Day, and it was pretty much what I expected. I wasn't super jazzed on it; in my opinion, there was too many fight scenes/action sequences. Although I voted Checkhov as my favorite character from the new film, I suppose I was a little biased, seeing I have a gaping crush on Anton Yelchin and he always makes me smile. I was very impressed with the actor cast as Bones-- he was so like McCoy, who I though would be difficult to reproduce. I also liked Scotty and Spock a lot.

I can't rememeber the title of the film, but the one where they are on earth to retrieve a whale is my fav Film.
15th-May-2009 06:31 am (UTC)
I'm a new Trek fan, mainly because I wasn't exposed to the old Trek franchise when I was young (was more of a book person than TV/movie person when I was a child, now everything has changed though). The main reason being I love movies with time as a main theme, and that Spock is a main attraction as long as he's played by Zachary Quinto. Couldn't care less for any other characters.
