Driving

This morning I was returning home to my apartment building after dropping my husband off at work. I pulled into the drive/street and see a car with it's reverse lights on just sitting there. They had been in that position before I turned by the way. I wait a safe distance for them to go and nothing. After a few moments I cautiously drive ahead (I wasn't a little speed demon or anything). I proceed to park and exit my car. While I was walking towards the building a guy keeps on giving me a rather strange look and than the following exchange takes place ....

Him: How old are you?
Me: 26? (not stated as a question because I wasn't sure my age, but because I was suspicious of being asked)
Him: How long have you been driving?
Me: A while, why?
Him: Well you know the car reversing as the right a way, right? (points to female walking a few steps ahead) You almost hit her.
Me: Oh I'm sorry.

So he or rather they were from or the car I was waiting to back out. Everyone in our building had to move their cars away from one side of the drive/street for tree removable. They weren't just changing parking spaces for the heck of it. When I got inside my apartment I did some research and far as I can tell - I actually had the right to go and if there had been accident they would've been at fault. But on private property is there often no law saying who has the right way, but likely I did.

If there had been accident in the events described above who do you think would be at fault?
