If holodeck technology was available, would it be morally wrong for someone to use it to act out scenarios that would be horribly wrong if done in real life? (E.g. murder, rape, sex with minors, cruelty to animals).

Man, I have been thinking about the moral implications of these damn near all day now. I started thinking it was morally wrong to do those things in a holodeck, but then I thought about how I kill things all the time in video games. That doesn't make me a killer in real life. I don't think I'd murder people in a realistic holodeck setting though. It would be too real. I don't think my mind would be able to separate itself from fantasy vs reality in that case. On a screen in front of me is very different than interacting with something realistic.

But then I thought about the type of person who would have sex with a child in the holodeck and that feels very wrong to me, even though it's not a real child. I think that would be morally wrong anyway though. The type of person who would do that is a pedophile even if they never touch a real child.
