Tim Tebow has been criticized by some for being too outspoken and demonstrative about his Christianity and his faith. His critics, including some former and current athletes and some in the media have suggested that Tebow should "tone it down", i.e. not be so open about his strong faith. Should Tim Tebow "tone it down"?

Whether or not should he "tone it down" depends on how he's been going about expressing his faith. If he's been trying to shove it down people's throats or to convert them, or if he's been trying to look like he represents the team as endorsing Christianity, then I would definitely say yes. But otherwise, as long as he's not trying to impose it on others and is making it clear that the Christian views are his own and not collectively that of the team, then he can sport that Bible verse face paint and pray at every game for all I care.

Agree with this. Also never heard of him before.

his faith is his business. how other people interpret it, however, could use some toning down.

Although I'm a very devout athiest, I have no problem with anyone shouting from the rooftops about God so long as they aren't trying to hurt or "fix" anyone.

I have no idea who he is, so I'm going to assume he's the former and not the later.

I 100% agree with this comment, (right down to not knowing who he is).

Nope. He has appeared in anti-choice commercials - he does try to "fix" people. He is scum.

I think that's pretty strong. Perhaps you've seen something I haven't, but anything I've seen him do has been mostly positive, and not anti-gay or hateful or anything like that. That commercial was a couple of years ago and I don't think he's done anything like it recently. You're entitled to your opinion, but I think you're being too harsh in calling him scum.

That's pretty much how I feel. From what I've seen of him, he's not telling others what to do and his message isn't hateful or homophobic. It's fair for him to do the things he does, just like it's fair for Richard Dawkins to write the God Delusion and debate on behalf of atheism. There's nothing wrong with frankness about one's belief as long as one doesn't attack those who hold a contrary view.

Tim Tebow is the scum of the earth. He should have been an abortion.
19th-Dec-2011 02:18 am (UTC)
What makes you say that?
19th-Dec-2011 12:21 am (UTC)
He can do whatever he wants, as long as he doesn't force me to do it, too.

I'm not a Tim Tebow fan. (He played for FL. I'm a GA fan.) ANYWAY. I don't see anything wrong with what he's doing. I've never seen him try to shove his beliefs down the throat of others. He makes it clear what his faith is. I don't see anything wrong with that. Freedom of religion.
