It depends a lot on how people in the home eat. My junior year of college I was in a townhouse with 8 other girls. Thankfully the school provided 2 fridges; it's pretty standard thing for some of the townhouses on campus. We split it up Fridge #1 for the 5 girls upstairs, fridge # 2 for the 4 girls downstairs. #1 was always overstuffed and the girls would ask to put stuff in our fridge, #2 always looked pretty bare for some reason even when we would come back from grocery shopping.

Senior year we only had one less girl, different type of townhouse and 1 refrigerator but the fridge was never overcrowded. I do think 8 is probably the limit though.

I once shared an apartment with five other girls for a year (working in Disney World), and we definitely needed a second fridge

Heck, I shared an apartment with two other girls for a year, and we needed a second fridge! Dang girls were always buying food they never cooked. Got so mad when I just started cooking it myself.

It depends entirely on the consumption habits of the family. We drink a lot of bottled/canned beverages in our 5-person household, so our second fridge is just for those... and any leftovers that don't fit in the first.

It definitely depends on the ages of the household members and how much they eat. I answered on the basis that all are adults and not part-vacuum.

When The Boy and I fly home to his 'rents for Xmas there are three fridges for six adults staying at the house, with at least another two adults and two-year-old twins for many dinners. One of the fridges is stocked almost entirely with beer though.

Our solitary fridge is just for the two of us and it's relatively barren. We buy a lot of our food fresh for cooking within the next few days and as we're both neat freaks, there is never expired or old food in there. We also don't eat much in the way if frozen food: our freezer has peas, corn, vodka, special occasion vodka, ice, and periodically Round Table leftovers.

I grew up in a house of 5 people and we had 2 fridges and a full size freezer (standup). My mom bought in bulk and froze lots of fruits and veggies in the summer.

Now, I live with my boyfriend and we have a regular sized fridge (we rent) and a dorm fridge for overflow. I've been thinking about getting a small deep freeze.

I can't answer the last question because I don't have a refrigerator in my house.

And I can't live in a house with more than 7 people. I've lived with 7 people and it was a huge house and I felt that that was my limit.

The number of refrigerators should be driven by the size of the house, rather than the number of people in it.

Two people living in my house. We have one main fridge in the kitchen, then there's this little fridge in his mancave. You know, like the Ones in convenience stores with the glass door. He got it off crags list and keeps beer soda and redbull stocked. Lol
