alright ladies and gents, i need an opinion.

i like playing the sims. i currently have the complete collection for sims 1. the only reason i haven't upgraded to 2 or 3 is because i love the makin' magic expansion pack, and for the life of me, can't figure out if 2 or 3 have the same properties, etc.

that being said, i do find myself wanting to upgrade, even if 2&3 don't have the MM properties. i'm also on a limited budget and can't afford 35765943541357468464 different expansion packs.

which brings us to my problem.

which game will give me more bang for my buck?

Sims 2
4(23.5%)
Sims 3
7(41.2%)
Neither
3(17.6%)
Other (and i'll explain in the comments)
3(17.6%)

EDIT: apparently wikipedia is your friend, and that i am an idiot. just looked up sims on there and it has a huge explanation on what's in each expansion pack. *facepalm*

I have both, so no real help there. :P

Personally I prefer the customization options in Sims 3, but as for actual game play? Sims 2 hands down.

I'm just gonna say 2, because:

*It will pretty much run on any system and doesn't need tons of RAM or system resources (Unlike 3, which would just barely run on 2 MB RAM).

*The expansion packs are reasonably cheap. And I only have 2 expansion packs and one stuff pack, yet love it and have yet to even come close to doing everything.

*It's cartoony and hilarious, whereas 3 gets into some uncanny valley territory. Like I'm kind of legitimately creeped out by how 3 looks.

*It's bound to get way cheaper as time goes on. Soon there may even be a Sims 2 Complete Collection, if there isn't already one.

CRAP, 2 *GB* RAM, not MB. Wow.

lol luckily i don't have to worry too much about RAM. i bought a new computer back in may and it has 4GB RAM. (which is a huge step up from my last computer which only had 1GB RAM)

I picked Sims 3 but with an asterisk...

*Provided your computer can handle it.

I actually have not played 3 yet, but from playing 1 for years and years and then playing 2 for years and years, I didn't miss 1 once I began to play 2. I would assume the same might go for 3.

As 2 is obsolete, you can probably find the expansions at used record/music/movie stores (those still exist??) or on eBay for a cheap as price.

You might want to try Sims: Medieval. It has a very different sort of game, but, in many ways, it's a vibe that's closer to MM. It has only one expansion pack, and probably won't get many more since it's sort of an expansion pack in and of itself.

Otherwise, since the expansions tend to follow a pattern, the "magic" expansion will be the last one added near the end of 3s run, so if you're waiting for that...
