It's not that the people who have schizophrenia scare me so much as it is that the disorder itself does. Or the prospect of losing touch with reality due to any cause, for that matter. My heart goes out to those of you who live with it, because I can't even imagine the challenges you go through. <3

My feelings about people with any of the schizophrenias depend far more on the person than the schizophrenia itself.

When i was employed with (fast food place), one of my co-workers had a form of schizophrenia where he would hear voices, and sometimes those voices would say incredibly fucked up things, like telling him to hurt people. I never saw him act on it, but working with him scared the shit out of me anyway because his behavior was so unpredictable.

I also know another person with a form of schizophrenia that was completely disorganized. She would express ideas in bizarre, rather jumbled up ways. I don't think i could even try to reproduce it. She and i seemed to get along quite well, and we lived together for about a year before she and her friend moved to a different part of the country. (and we won't even discuss what her bedroom looked like. OH. MY. GOD. lol)

So yeah, to me it's far more about the person than the disorder.

I've never known anyone with the disorder; ignoring the various levels of fiction in film & TV I have no real frame of reference for it.

Possibly one of the more interesting diagnoses from a medical professional that I ever received was that I had an extremely mild form of schizophrenia.

I have a friend who is schizophrenic and when his illness is under control, I do what I can to be a supportive friend. But when it's out of control, he's not much fun to be around, and his behaviour can really scare me.

I don't lknow any schizophrenic people, but I know that commonly they are mistaken(well where I live at least) for people with split personalities. thats however a different disorder.
