My preschoolers are singing Must Be Santa for our Winter Festival, so that came to mind for a Santa-based song. My all-time favorite Christmas song is Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.

Ooh, how could I have forgotten that one? D'oh!

yes!

I love Christmas music this time of the year-- but typically only instrumental versions of carols. There are precious few things I can tolerate with the words written back in. And don't get me started on the version of Sleigh Ride with words, grr!

My all time favorite carol is Carol of the Bells, though. That one, though it has words, is less about the words and more about the harmonies being made. So I can just nearly listen to any version of that song and love it.

I've also gotten to where I enjoy the song "Baby, it's Cold Outside." Lyrics and all, yep. :P /hypocrite

I like all of these.

Also, any song done by Trans Siberian Orchestra or Mannheim Steamroller

Best religious song: Noël Nouvelet.

The traditional secular stuff kinda sucks (except Carol of the Bells).

The quirky secular stuff... eh. Nothing really sticks out at me.

About new (2010) Christmas albums, I heard a review on NPR
of Pink Martini's new holiday album, Joy to the World, and it sounded good enough for me to order it, though I haven't actually received / heard it yet.

I really like "Carol of the Bells". Also, though there's not a catagory for it, I love "A Christmas Song" by Jethro Tull.

I'm so glad you mentioned Mele Kalikimaka! I'm a fan of the Bing Crosby version.

i like the the fairytale of new york, and I like Yellow snow(the song that is)

I love "Baby it's Cold Outside", although it's not really a Christmas song. Christmas is just the only time they play that song.

Quirky: "Christmas Wrapping" by The Waitresses.
7th-Dec-2010 04:39 pm (UTC)
I would vote for White Christmas three more times if it were possible. Words alone cannot describe my love of that song.

Whose version do you mosty enjoy? The original by Bing Crosby, or one of the many remakes? (For a list of some of them see here.)
9th-Dec-2010 04:12 am (UTC)
I love Christmas Carols! Une Flambeau Jenette Isabella and Il Est Ne
The more esoteric the better. Even those two aren't really esoteric. But I once had a record (remember them?) of Medieval Christmas Carols.
My childhood memory is of cold and midnight mass, and one of our neighbors with a beautiful voice singing The Christmas Rose - at least I think that is the name of it.

Even though I'm not religious, I've always enjoyed singing the traditional religious Christmas songs.
