I call it a taxi, cab (only for black cabs), black cab, minicab.

I would *never* ride in the front, it is far too pally.

I always ride on the front seat when driving alone - that's the common thing to do where I'm from.

I said "something else" in the third question as my primary language isn't English - we call it taxa in Danish.

There are two types of taxi or cab here in the UK, the taxi and the minicab, though some places don't have the black cabs that are most common to London. In the black cabs, one can't sit at the front as there is no front seat. In a minicab one can, but I never sit at the front next to the driver in one of those unless I know the driver (which I have done occasionally in the past) or I'm with other people.

I'm not sure if it's changed yet - as I've not taken a cab for a couple of years - but they were supposed to be bringing in licencing for minicabs in the UK which would (supposedly) make things safer... generally minicabbing can be done by anyone otherwise. Black cab drivers in London do what is colloquially called 'The Knowledge' first. Nothing is a guarantee of safety though.

I've never ridden in a taxi either. There are very few in my city and you have to call and request one to come pick you up.

I've only ever ridden in the front seat when I'm riding with my family, and there's no room in the back seat for me.

At least here in Philly I think they rather you sit in the backseat. I also always sit back there because that's where they put the credit card machine.

I ticked "back seat" because I usually sit there but sometimes I sit in the front as it doesn't bother me.

I went on a study abroad trip to Mexico and had to take a cab pretty much everywhere. Usually my roommate came with me places, but not every time.

Anyway, apparently sitting in the front seat is baaaaad news.

I've only ridden in a taxi once and I was all by my lonesome. A friend called it for me to take me to the airport this past summer, and I asked her where I was supposed to ride before it came. She told me I could choose either, but she preferred the back seat. So, I sat in back. It was a very nervous time in my life - I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing.
